When is the USB-C iPhone coming?
Oct 27, 2022| When is the USB-C iPhone coming?
This must be the question of most concern to everyone. The soonest and most likely outcome is that Apple will start moving to USB-C with next year's iPhone 15 series.
In May, Tianfeng analyst Ming Kuo concluded that from a supply chain survey, and Bloomberg's Mark Gurman followed up with a report confirming that Apple is indeed testing an iPho with USB-C
Neither of the two prominent sources confirmed whether the iPhone 15 will have all the ports, or just the Pro series. Last month Gurman revealed that next year's iPhone 15 will have an Ultra model that will be positioned at the top end and will use USB-C. Given Apple's increasingly sophisticated cup splitting strategy, it's also possible that the non-Pro iPhone 15 won't have a USB-C port.
As a result, Apple won't introduce USB-C ports until the iPhone 17 in 2025 at the latest. Since the EU rules don't take effect until the end of 2024, the iPhone 16 should have been released by then, and as a pre-launch device, it could still be sold without USB-C.
