Apple personally confirmed! The iPhone is really going to interface with Android

Apple gave in to the EU anyway.

Speaking at the Wall Street Journal's Tech Live event today, Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of worldwide marketing, said Apple will have to switch to USB-C on Lightning-enabled devices like the iPhone in order to comply with the new EU rules. USB-C is the ubiquitous port on Android phones, and not just phones. It's now used in many laptops, smart homes, and other devices.

The EU's new rules, which were adopted on Oct 24, require all electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets and digital cameras to use USB-C charging ports in the EU from the end of 2024. Although the regulation only applies to the European Union market, Apple is likely to introduce the USB-C iPhone as a global version.
