Trump came up with the idea of building a wall: the reconciliation fund of Norwegian Bank
Mar 21, 2019| A US government official said the White House is planning to get an unexpected windfall from an international banking scandal to help pay for the construction of the border wall.
Societe Generale acknowledged that it has violated US sanctions against Cuba and Iran for many years and reached an agreement with the US government in November last year to pay $1.3 billion. The official said that the Trump administration hopes to allocate $359 million from the settlement agreement to a special account of the Ministry of Finance to fund the construction of the border wall.
However, it is unclear whether the White House can use the money to build the border wall. Treasury accounts known as asset forfeiture funds consist of cash, property and other items seized in civil and criminal investigations. The use of these funds is subject to federal law, and the account itself has been criticized, and both conservatives and liberals call it an example of government overstepping.
