The addition of a smoothening agent to the material formulation, such as the amides described above, similarly provides an intrinsic lubricant reservoir for the polymer. Immediately after leaving the mold, the slicker will migrate to the surface of the polymer. Migration occurs due to poor compatibility between fatty acid amides and polymers.

In this process, the fatty acid amide is dissolved in the melt, but as the polymer cools and begins to crystallize, the slicker is squeezed out of the hardening polymer. Once reached the surface, the smooth agent will form a lubricating layer, surface feel excellent.
