Thyristor is the abbreviation of thyristor, also known as thyristor rectifier, formerly referred to as thyristor; in 1957, General Electric Company of the United States developed the world's first thyristor product, and commercialized it in 1958; The thyristor is a PNPN four-layer semiconductor structure with three poles: anode, cathode and gate; thyristor operating conditions are: plus forward voltage and gate with trigger current; the derivative devices are: fast thyristor, triac, and reverse thyristor , light control thyristors, etc. It is a high-power switching type semiconductor device, which is represented by a letter symbol "V" or "VT" in the circuit (indicated by the letter "SCR" in the old standard). The thyristor has the characteristics of silicon rectifying device, can work under high voltage and high current conditions, and its working process can be controlled and widely used in controllable rectification, AC voltage regulation, non-contact electronic switch, inverter and frequency conversion and other electronic circuits.

Thyristor type

(1) Classified according to shutdown, conduction and control methods

Thyristors can be divided into common thyristors, bidirectional thyristors, reverse thyristors, gate turn-off thyristors (GTO), BTG thyristors, temperature-controlled thyristors, and light-controlled thyristors according to their turn-off, conduction, and control modes.

(2) Classification by pin and polarity

Thyristors can be divided into two-pole thyristors, three-pole thyristors, and quadrupole thyristors according to their pins and polarities.

(3) Classification by package

Thyristors can be divided into three types: metal package thyristors, plastic thyristors and ceramic package thyristors. Among them, the metal package thyristor is further divided into a bolt shape, a flat plate shape, a round shell shape and the like; the plastic sealing thyristor is further divided into a heat sink type and a heat sink type.

(4) Classification by current capacity

Thyristors can be divided into high-power thyristors, medium-power thyristors and low-power thyristors according to current capacity. Generally, high-power thyristors are mostly packaged in a metal case, while medium- and small-power thyristors are mostly packaged in a plastic or ceramic package.

(5) Classification by shutdown speed

Thyristors can be divided into ordinary thyristors and high frequency (fast) thyristors according to their turn-off speed.
