Because USB Type-C (USB-C) has the advantages of high-speed charging, high-speed data transmission, positive and negative insertion, etc., in recent years, the call for the iPhone to adopt USB-C interface is getting higher and higher.
At present, USB-C has been widely used in Android phones, and even Apple's iPad, Mac and other flagship products are equipped with USB-C, but the iPhone still stubbornly uses Lightning port. Previous attempts by the European Union to unify charging ports for smartphones into USB-C were vehemently opposed by Apple, which argued that forcing a common charging port would "stifle innovation" and "create e-waste".

Despite Apple's official opposition to USB-C charging ports on the iPhone, foreign engineer Ken Pillonel successfully converted his iPhone X to USB-C. Next, let's take a look at the tech guru's "magic operation".

The original idea for the project came from Ken Pillonel who wanted an iPhone with USB Type-C. The reason is that Ken Pillonel's existing charging ports for electronic devices are all USB-C types. In order to make it easier to charge all electronic devices with one charger and one cable, Ken Pillonel decided to build an iPhone with USB-C.

At the beginning of the design, Pillonel first studied the internal structure of USB-C specification documents and data cables, and designed a reverse link miniaturized USB Type-C female port method. The internal connection of Lightning port is shown in the figure below:

Pillonel then made a Type-C circuit board and designed the male Lightning as the input. Pillonel studied several MFI-certified wires that were not officially manufactured by Apple and found that the most important component was a connector called C94, which is now officially manufactured by Apple as an L2C cable and is known as C91 (formerly C52), as shown below:
