Despite Pillonel's success in replacing the Lightning port with a USB-C port, the practice has been controversial. According to Apple's terms of repair, the world's first USB-C iPhone will not only not be eligible for Apple's warranty service if the device is damaged due to unauthorized repair, but may incur additional repair costs and even result in Apple refusing to repair the device outright.
