According to a new report by MacRumors, @Dylandkt Apple's next iMac in development, called the "iMac Pro," will be powered by the same M1 Pro and M1 Max chips Apple found in the MacBook Pro, And there may be "additional configuration."
The name "iMac Pro" is intended to distinguish the upcoming iMac from the 24-inch iMac released earlier this year. Since the new iMac will feature Apple's M1 Pro and Max chips, Apple considers it a "Pro" device and internally refers to it as the iMac Pro, according to Dylandkt.
In terms of configuration, iMac Pro adopts the ProMotion technology of 27-inch Mini-LED display, dark frame, and the frame size will be reduced. Equipped with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, all models will have an HDMI port, an SD card slot and multiple USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, similar to the MacBook Pro, and an Ethernet port will be added to the power adapter.
Dylandkt also said the iMac Pro will start at or above $2,000 and launch in the first half of 2022. The iMac Pro could replace the current 27-inch Intel-based iMac model. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has also confirmed that the iMac Pro is currently in development. Apple is currently focusing on the 24-inch iMac, and will move on to other work after the 24-inch iMac is finished.
