No one wants to wait until the end of 2020 to have 5G

“It’s too late to start in 2020. No one wants to wait until the end of 2020 to have 5G. 2019 is the real 5G year.” Qualcomm’s president, Cristiano Amon, once again blew the 5G horn.

DurgaMalladi, senior vice president of Qualcomm and general manager of 4G/5G business, told reporters at First Financial News that the current global 5G network deployment has a good momentum, and the terminal manufacturers' enthusiasm for 5G is also very high.

Amon said that the progress of the initial 5G construction is much faster than 4G. He pointed out that in the first year of 4G construction, only four telecom operators built 4G networks; in the first year of 5G, more than 20 operators announced that they are deploying 5G networks. On the mobile terminal side, only 4 manufacturers released 4G mobile phones in the early 4G, and more than 20 OEMs will release 5G mobile phones this year.

Different from previous generations of mobile communication technologies, the 5G era network and terminals are simultaneously mature. Ge Xin, general manager of strategic cooperation of GSMA Greater China, said in an interview with the First Financial News reporter that from the development process, 1G to 4G are mature networks, and the carrier network will be deployed after half a year to a year and a half later. Consumers can afford the terminal, "but one of the biggest changes in 5G is the maturity of the network and the terminal. This is the most important change in the development of mobile communications in 40 years."
