Is eliminating the headphone jack really necessary for the iPad?

The iPhone got rid of the headphone jack with the iPhone 7, the iPod Touch is no longer in production, and the only Apple devices that still sell headphone jacks are the Macs.

Given the MacBook Pro's recent Renaissance and port reviews, it's a good thing the headphone jack won't be gone for a while.

The question is, is eliminating the headphone jack really necessary for the iPad?

Famously, the reason the headphone jack was removed was because space was tight inside the iPhone to make room for other components, and Apple later introduced its own TWS AirPods to make up for it.

The internal space of the iPad body is obviously not as tense as that of the iPhone. After all, in addition to the battery motherboard, the speaker unit will take up some space. The reason for using the iPhone is obviously not past.

Since it's not about saving space, there's an obvious reason to get rid of the headphone jack -- to sell more AirPods.

As we all know, schools in many countries have adopted the entry-level iPad for education on a large scale, and the popularity of electronic textbooks is very high. The purpose of removing the headphone jack is to get more schools and students to buy AirPods instead of continuing to use their wired headphones.

Apple has a good plan. Maybe it's living too well.

Recently, Strategy Analytics released a report that in Q2 2022, Apple's iPad shipments decreased by 7% year on year, but outperformed the overall survey, to 14.8 million units, the global market share rose by 3.3% to 38%, while Android leader Samsung only sold 7.1 million units. With 18% of the market, it's no threat to Apple's position.
