IOS 16 Apple Pay or compatible with third-party browsers, including Chrome, Edge, and Firefox

In iOS 16, Apple Pay may finally be compatible with Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. MacRumors contributor Steve Moser found that Apple Pay is compatible with Edge and Chrome in iOS 16 Beta 4 and shared his findings on Twitter.

Apple's checkout page has a "Continue with Apple Pay" option when using Edge. Apple Pay only works with Safari in iOS 15 and earlier, and you can't use another browser if you want to Pay with Apple Pay for online purchases.

While Moser didn't mention the Firefox browser, other users noticed Apple Pay's compatibility with iOS 16 Beta 4 before it was released. A Reddit post earlier this month revealed the option to Pay with Apple Pay when using Firefox in iOS 16 Beta 2. Another iOS 16 Beta 3 user said they also had an Apple Pay option for Firefox.

However, Apple Pay is still missing from the latest macOS beta. As Moser points out, this could be because Chrome, Edge, and Firefox all use WebKit, Safari's rendering engine, on iOS, due to Apple's requirements. Third-party browsers are free to use their own engines on macOS, so we don't see Apple Pay support beyond Safari on the Mac.
