Teener's team turned to stmicroelectronics, which has a technology that could easily double the bandwidth of a cable. They also stole a Game Link cable from the Nintendo Game Boy, which has a similar design.
By the time it was finalized, FireWire's design specifications totaled more than 300 pages and could achieve speeds of 400Mbps(50 megabits per second) on cables up to 4.5 meters long.
In 1995, IEEE approved the specification, known as IEEE 1394, and it became widely adopted. IEEE 1394 is known by different brands: Apple calls it FireWire, SONY calls it i.LINK and Texas Instruments calls it Lynx.
