Nov 09, 2022| Facebook has changed its name to Meta and is developing a smartwatch to take on Apple
At FaceBook's Connect event yesterday, founder Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company would change its name to "Meta." "Meta" is derived from "Metaverse," indicating the social media giant's determination to enter the metaverse. Meanwhile, Facebook's namesake service was relegated to one of the company's subsidiaries, alongside Instagram and WhatsApp, rather than the overall brand.
In addition, Meta is currently working on a smartwatch that will appear in its iPhone app. The front facing camera will be placed at the bottom of the screen, and there will be a control button on the right side of the body. The Watch will have a detachable strap and a similar screen style to the Apple Watch. Code inside the software suggests the watch's nickname could be "Milan," and it can take both photos and videos and download them to a mobile phone. Meta is currently selling VR headsets and Portal video chat devices, and in the future, smartwatches may become one of the most important hardware products in the Meta family.
Sources say Meta has developed three generations of products, which may be released at different times. Previously, foreign media said that Apple has planned three new Apple Watches in 2022, which means that Meta and Apple will have more fierce competition.
