Oct 13, 2022| Because of Apple's unique design, Studio Display is probably the only one in the industry to be sold with the power cord attached to the display itself.
The Studio Display is too thin and the traditional three-pin jack is too deep. Apple custom-designed the plug and cable to keep it sturdy and prevent users from accidentally knocking wires off, much like the iMac's 24-inch MagSafe port.
Fortunately, the average person doesn't spend all day plugging in and out of power cords, so from a day-to-day perspective, custom, non-generic power cords don't pose much of a problem, other than being "handy."
If anything, in an emergency situation, you can't use the power cord of the rice cooker instead.
The Mac Studio, which was released together, also had a strange design. As a cross between the Mac Pro and the M1 Mac mini, it combines the features of both in hard drive design: it offers standard M.2 solid-state drive interface like the Mac Pro, but doesn't support self-replacement like the M1 Mac mini.
