In the latest edition of his "Power On" newsletter, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman said Apple is testing a Mac Pro with Apple's Silicon chip. Gurman said he doesn't think the first Apple Silicon Mac Pro will go on sale before 2023, but that testing of the device is already taking place inside Apple. Last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook also tweeted that his team in Austin is hard at work on the next generation chip, which is expected to be for the Mac Pro.
According to Gurman, the new high-end Mac Pro will offer chip versions that are at least double or quadruple the M2 Max, calling these chips "M2 Ultra" and "M2 Extreme." He thinks the Mac Pro will offer versions with 24 and 48 CPU cores and 76 and 152 GPU cores, with up to 256 GB of memory.
Gurman also revealed a Mac Pro configuration that Apple tested internally: 24 CPU cores (16 performance cores and 8 energy efficiency cores), 76 GPU cores, and 192 GB of RAM. The device is running on macOS Ventura 13.3.
