Thailand's pesticide ban is coming into effect about 2000 protesters call for the government to delay its implementation
Thailand's capital Bangkok protested against the ban on the use of pesticides Tuesday, Singapore's Lianhe Morning Post reported.
According to the report, the Thai government has voted to ban three pesticides that are harmful to human health, and the ban will take effect on December 1.
On the 26th local time, about 2000 demonstrators marched outside the Thai government building and submitted a letter to Thai Prime Minister Bayu. They asked the government to delay the implementation of pesticide ban measures and give more time to assess relevant scientific evidence, the impact of pesticide ban on the economy and find other alternatives.
Protesters say banning pesticides will weaken farmers' competitiveness and lead to millions of people losing their jobs.
It is reported that the measures to ban pesticides are led by the proud Thai party in the ruling coalition. The three pesticides to be banned are paraquat, chlorpyrifos and glyphosate.
