Saudi Journalist Jamal Kashuji Killed

Saudi Arabian journalist Jamal Kashhuji, who frequently criticized the Saudi government, made a contribution to several media outlets such as The Washington Post. He did not come out after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 for marriage-related procedures. Turkey and Saudi Arabia have confirmed that Kashoji was "murdered" in the consulate on October 2.


The Saudi procuratorate has arrested 21 suspects involved. On the 15th of this month, the Saudi procuratorate issued a statement announcing the prosecution of 11 suspects and filed a death sentence for five people who ordered and executed the killing of Kashuji. The case will be transferred to the court.


The U.S. Treasury Department announced on the 15th that it will impose sanctions on 17 Kashji case suspects. Those sanctioned included Saudi Arabia’s senior official Saoud Kahtani and one of his subordinates, Saudi Consul General in Istanbul, Mohamed Otabi, and 14 other Saudi officials. According to the relevant regulations of the United States, the assets of the sanctioned individuals in the United States will be frozen, and US citizens may not trade with them.
