World's largest digital camera unveiled

The U.S. Department of Energy's SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory has unveiled the world's largest digital camera. With a height of 1.65 meters and a resolution of 3.2 billion pixels, the camera can photograph dust particles on the moon. It will be shipped to Chile to take part in the Spatiotemporal Heritage Survey (LSST) project to build an astronomical trove of images of some 20 billion galaxies. With the help of 189 sensors, the LSST camera captures light from stars and other objects and converts it into electrical signals. In addition, the camera's largest lens diameter is 1.57 meters, which is also the largest of its kind.
