Want fast charge? Do not use your car's USB port

If you have a relatively new car, you probably have a USB port on your dashboard, glove box, or center console. Of course, should you use them to charge your device? It's not so fast. If you want a quick charge, the built-in port won't disconnect it.

Unfortunately, in-car built imports are rather poor at amperes. As detailed in the guide for selecting a USB charging station in your home, amperage is important. The lower the amperage, the longer it will take to charge the device (and it will be more difficult to maintain the charge if the device is in use). The higher the amperage, the less time it takes to charge your device (you can turn it off immediately while in use).

The problem with the built-in automotive port is that it doesn't supply enough juice to charge and charge mobile phones, tablets and other devices that require modern power. We measure multiple vehicles with a USB voltmeter / ammeter and the data port in the dash (generally connecting a USB drive or mobile phone to play music) can be very weak at 0.5A output It turns out. Now that you have a full MP3 drive, it is enough to charge your iPhone and maintain the current battery level. If you are using a navigation or business card battery with a mobile phone it will not charge and it drains faster.

The other ports of the vehicle that were specifically designated as charging ports were not much better. All the charging ports we tested were only 1A in both the front and rear passenger spaces. How is the 1A fare paid in the real world? Under ideal conditions, smartphones and tablets charge very slowly at 1 ampere, but cannot be used in ideal conditions that do not work well on heavily used devices. This means that passengers who are charging their iPhone using the charging port during the game expect the battery to drain slowly despite being connected.

solution? Abandon the built-in USB port and take advantage of the power of the car's 12V port and universal charger. Most cars have a 12V port rated at least 10A. A superior plug-in USB car charger can provide more charging goodness with 3-4 2.1A ports than all the built-in ports in your car.

Our favorite charger is an intelligent USB car charger, thanks to its low profile. It has two ports. Enough juice to quickly charge four energy-rich tablets at once. Finally, if both of the previous options are too big for your taste and you don't need too many ports.

Given how to upgrade cheaply using a 12V port and a third-party charger, and how a single 2.1A charger can be significantly better than using one of the car's built-in charging ports, There is no reason for slow charging.
