Trickle charging

Trickle charging is used to compensate for the loss of capacity due to self-discharge after the battery is fully charged. Pulse current charging is generally used to achieve the above objectives. To compensate for self-discharge, the battery is kept in a continuous, low current charge that is approximately fully charged. Also known as maintenance charging. The battery of the DC power supply system of the telecommunication device, the signal system, etc., is in a trickle charge state after being fully charged, and is used for discharging. According to the experience of previous tests, after 40 hours of full charge, the capacity lost due to self-discharge is about 5% of the nominal capacity. In theory, continuous charging with C/500 current can make up for the capacity loss caused by self-discharge: C*5/100*24h*C/500. However, since the current is too small, the charging efficiency is actually very low, so that it is basically impossible to charge. We can solve this problem by using the pulse charging method. Charging with C/10 for 1.2 seconds, leaving 58.8 seconds. The capacity charged per day according to the above conditions is approximately 5% of the nominal capacity.

In general, the mode of pulse charging is suitable in the following range, and can be selected according to actual conditions. Charging current: C / 20, charging time: 0.1 seconds to 60 seconds.
