The unique control mode of HiperPFS-5 determines that the inductance of the boost inductor used by it is smaller. Compared with the traditional CRM critical mode, the inductance of the boost inductor can be reduced by more than 50%. With the decrease of the inductance, the volume will be reduced accordingly, which is very important for USB PD applications with miniaturization design requirements. Another benefit of working in DCM mode is the availability of low-cost boost diodes. It will also help to optimize system cost and improve EMI.

During the event, PI also introduced a 130W USB PD charger reference design using the HiperPFS-5 and InnoSwitch4-CZ chipset. All three chips have built-in gallium nitride switches. HiperPFS-5 provides high power factor and low no-load power consumption. The standby power consumption of the whole system is less than 70mW. Through the highly integrated design, it can be seen that the PI design has a very small number of components, which greatly simplifies the design of high power output power supply with high power density and small volume.
