The iPhone surpassed Android for the first time, with more than 50 percent of the U.S. market
Oct 05, 2022| As of the end of June, Apple phones accounted for more than 50 percent of smartphones in the United States for the first time, according to Counterpoint Research. It was Apple's highest share in the US market since the launch of the iPhone in 2007, with the rest of the market being split by the remaining 150 or so Android phones led by Samsung and Lenovo.
It's a big milestone for Apple. What's more, market analysts are optimistic that similar trends will play out in other developed markets. "Operating systems have never changed much," says Jeff Fieldhack, director of analytics at Counterpoint. But over the past four years, the direction of traffic has been from Android to iOS. This is a major milestone and we are likely to see the same in other rich countries around the globe."
