This year's smart phones in the image aspect in addition to the one-inch big bottom IMX989 performance eye-catching, appear frequently is probably SONY IMX766, this 1/1.56 inch 50 million pixel CMOS from last year to this year, is still the main camera of many flagship phones. But starting next year, it looks like SONY's new IMX890 will replace the IMX766 as the primary or secondary camera for many of the new mid-range or flagship Android devices.
Detailed specifications for the SONY IMX890 have been released, and the image sensor is still 1/1.56 inch in size, with a total of 50.3 megapixels. It can combine four cores and one pixel to produce around 12.5 million still images. The single pixel size after pixel merging is 2μm, which is basically the same performance as IMX766. The slight difference is that IMX890 can achieve 30 frames of full resolution output through CPHY, so the output quality of 8K video should be higher than that of IMX766.
