Ming Chi Kuo, one of the most powerful Apple analysts on the planet, tweeted early this morning that Apple's homegrown 5G baseband Modem chip for the iPhone appears to be suffering
Kuo expects Qualcomm to remain the exclusive baseband supply for the iPhone at least through the iPhone 15 series in the second half of 2023 The speculation is that Apple may already be in talks with Qualcomm to secure future baseband chip supplies.
For Qualcomm, if it gets the big iPhone 15 deal, it could be sitting on its hands for the next two years. Kuo has also said that Qualcomm will beat revenue and earnings per share (EPS) during the iPhone 15 cycle
Since the news came during intraday trading, Qualcomm shares shot up and Apple shares fell.
It is a rare thing for Apple to be so deflated. But Apple, a controlling company, continued to work on baseband chips. I believe that with Apple's determination and strength, it is only a matter of time to realize self-developed 5G baseband.
