But the iPad for Mac is not a piece of cake. It's a little bit older than the iPad, but it's not called iPad, and it's not officially made by Apple.
The "Mac iPad" is called the Modbook, which, as the name suggests, is a modified MacBook. Modbook was first unveiled at Macworld in 2007 by Axiontron. Axiontron is a little-known company, but its origins are not simple. It was founded by Andreas Haas, a former executive on Apple's MessagePad project, a precursor to the iPad.
The first Modbook was pretty rudimentary, pretty much a MacBook with a keyboard cut out and a touch screen revamped. The Modbook runs the macOS X desktop system, has a larger viewing Angle, higher contrast LCD screen, and a chemically enhanced cover for durability. The Modbook also comes with an Apple Pencile for 512 levels of pressure sensing, with programmable side keys and eraser.
Modbook shone at that Macworld, where Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak lavished praise, even though the event was really about Jobs and the original iPhone. Apple's internal attitude toward Modbook is also very friendly, and the legal Department has never bothered with the modified MacBook.
In June 2012, the second generation of Modbook was released, called Modbook Pro, running on macOS X 10.8, with options for OS X 10.9 and 10.10, and even a dual version of macOS and Windows 7.
Now two years old, the Modbook Pro is designed to look like a new-age tablet, with a 13.3-inch touch screen, similar to the 13-inch MacBook Pro, It comes with a dual-core i7 mobile processor, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB mechanical hard drive, or a 960GB solid-state drive.

However, the Modbook Pro didn't become the iPad Pro after all -- too expensive. At $2,000, the Modbook Pro is more expensive than the MacBook Pro. The Modbook Pro is said to have built fewer than 1,000 units. The successor Modbook Pro X, released in 2014, is a larger tablet adapted from the 15-inch MacBook Pro with a TouchBar. It had an even grimmer fate, having met its crowdfunding goal but never officially launched.
Also, Modbook Pro was so far ahead of its time that it was released before the iPad Pro was even available, and it was only a minority idea to do the job of a traditional PC in tablet form.
The year after the Modbook Pro X, Apple released the original iPad Pro, which features a 12.9-inch screen, an A9X processor, and iOS 9.1, starting at $799. The "big iPhone" eventually became the iPad Pro that the market recognized.
