Oct 03, 2022| New features are hidden in Apple's iOS 16.1 Beta 3. The original AirPods Pro is now in adaptive permeability mode
"Adaptive permeability mode" is seen as a competitive new feature in the AirPods Pro 2, which automatically reduces the volume in the environment to block out some unwanted noise. While many people thought this feature was exclusive to AirPods Pro 2, some noticed that in iOS 16.1 Developer Preview Beta 3 and Public Beta 3, original AirPods Pro users will also find an "adaptive Permeability Mode" option in their device Settings.

As you can see from the screenshot shared online, original AirPods Pro users who have updated to AirPods beta firmware 5A304A can now see the "Adaptive Permeability Mode" option in the AirPods section of the phone's Settings.

Apple AirPods Pro 2 is equipped with the H2 chip. It claims that the adaptive permeable mode can take advantage of the powerful performance of the H2 chip, which can greatly reduce the intensity of loud noises such as honking or power tools, so that users can comfortably hear their surroundings. It's unclear how well this will work with the original AirPods Pro, which only had the H1 chip. It's unclear if the chip performance gap will affect the adaptive permeability mode performance between the two devices. Let's wait and see what the original AirPods Pro says.
