LG Display's LTPO OLED panel for the iPhone14Pro Max is in the final stages of review by apple

LG Display's low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED for the iPhone14Pro Max is in the final stages of review by apple, reports TheElec.

Whether the South Korean display maker will win the deal will be decided in about two weeks, the sources said. This is LG Display's first attempt to commercialize its LTPO thin-film transistor (TFT) OLED. Rival Samsung display is already making panels for the iPhone14Pro Max and Pro. It commercialized the technology back in 2020.

A sample LG Display provided to Apple showed problems with the film package and the perforations placed on the front-facing camera. For this reason, the company has had to change some of the masks used in the production process, the sources said. The modified new sample is passing the reliability test.

If Apple rejects new samples within two weeks, LG Display will have to delay approval by another two weeks, or a month, by resubmitting samples. If approved in early October, the South Korean company could immediately start mass production, which would win it more orders.

Apple uses LTPO OLED panels in its Pro models, while standard and Plus models use low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) panels, which are easier to manufacture compared to LTPO OLEDSs.
