Inductive charging mechanism
Inductive charger consists of two main induction coils. One is housed in a 'charging base' (commonly known as "mat") and is responsible for generating alternating current (AC) from within the base. Others are portable devices that require charging (like tablets, smartphones, etc.). The coil may be in the form of a clip pad on your phone, a circuit embedded in your phone, or get a built-in charging and replacement battery cover connected to the coil charging socket. Together, these two coils constitute an electrical transformer.
Mobile wireless chargning
When the charging base / plate is turned on, the AC flows through it, creating an electromagnetic field (a changing magnetic field) around the primary coil. When the secondary coil (receiver coil, housed in a smartphone) comes close to the former, the current is generated inside the coil. The AC that flows through the coil of the smartphone (cell phone charger) is converted to DC (direct current) by the receiver circuit. The DC generated this way may eventually be used for wireless charging.
