Indian company develops fast-charged battery: fully charged in 15 minutes

Although electric vehicles are more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient than fuel-based vehicles, there are still many problems in use. Among them, slow charging is one of the most troublesome users, and the biggest weakness of electric vehicles when compared with fuel vehicles.

According to foreign media reports, a startup called Gegadyne Energy in Mumbai, India, has developed a new type of battery and has applied for a patent for the battery, indicating that it may be commercialized by 2020.

In a lithium ion battery, energy is stored in an electrochemical form, resulting in a slow battery charging rate and a short overall cycle life of the battery. In contrast, the new battery designed by the researchers combines electrostatic and electrochemical processes to store energy, making the battery's cycle life nearly 50 times longer than conventional batteries, charging time is shorter, and charging speed is faster.

It takes at least 6-8 hours to charge a pure electric vehicle at the moment, but the battery is said to be able to reduce it to 15 minutes of full charge.

Compared with the traditional lithium-ion battery, since the energy is stored in an electrochemical form, the battery charging speed is slow and the overall cycle life is also short, but the promotion of the new battery is beneficial to greatly solve the pain point in the current electric vehicle use.
