Dec 09, 2022| December 9, 2019 -- Huawei and OPPO Guangdong Mobile Communications Co., Ltd. today announced the signing of a global patent cross-license agreement covering basic patents for cellular communications standards, including 5G standards.
OPPO paid Huawei to license its advanced 5G technology
It is revealed that the cross-licensing agreement reached between Huawei and OPPO includes a blanket arrangement for the licensing of 5G and other standard essential patented technologies and related products. Under the agreement, OPPO paid to license Huawei's advanced 5G technology. Meanwhile, for OPPO's research on wireless standards, Huawei has obtained the required OPPO patent license.
In the past year, nearly 20 global manufacturers (including Samsung, OPPO, NORDIC, etc.) in the smartphone, smart car, network, IoT, and other industries have obtained Huawei patent licenses. We expect about 350 million 5G phones and 15 million connected vehicles to be licensed by Huawei this year.
"While Huawei has signed some licensing agreements with domestic companies, OPPO is by far the largest and has the most patents." According to Huawei.
Fan Zhiyong, head of Huawei Intellectual Property Department, said, "After more than 20 years of continuous innovation, Huawei has formed several high-value patent packages worldwide, including 5G, Wi-Fi, audio, and video. Huawei is pleased to have reached a cross-licensing agreement with OPPO. Mutual recognition of the value of intellectual property among enterprises can promote the positive innovation cycle of "input, return and reinput" of high-value standard technology research, improve the sustainable innovation ability of the industry, and provide consumers with more competitive products and services."
