From autumn 2024, USB-C will become the standard charging port for smartphones

From autumn 2024, USB-C will become the standard charging port for smartphones, tablets, e-readers, keyboards, computer mice, GPS devices, digital cameras, headphones, handheld video game consoles and portable speakers sold in the EU, according to the new regulations. Starting in 2026, USB-C will also be a standard port for laptop chargers. That means Apple's devices also need to use USB-C charging ports.

According to Margrethe Vestager, executive vice president of the relevant media interview committee, a single port charger would not only be good for the environment, but also for consumers, which would mean saving at least 250 million euros a year.
