Cosemi has launched the world's first hybrid active fiber cable (hAOC) that supports the USB 3.1 Gen.2 standard, providing 10Gbps of transmission bandwidth over distances up to 50 meters.
The data line uses optical fiber for data transmission, copper wire for control and power supply. It is self-powered and requires no external expansion box or repeater. It is simpler and more reliable.
In terms of connectors, there will be A variety of options, including USB-A/USB-A, USB-A/USB-C, USB-C/USB-C, starting with A-C, but also downward compatible with USB 3.1 Gen.1 and USB 2.0.
It is worth mentioning that this data line does not use PVC polyvinyl chloride material, because the material will produce toxic gas when burning, which does not meet the wall cable specifications in many places.
Cosemi is piloting production of the new data line, which will begin in March. Pricing has not been announced, only that it will be competitive with the USB expansion box option.
