Floating charge

Floating charge is a kind of supply (discharge) operation mode of the battery pack. The system connects the battery pack and the power supply line in parallel to the load circuit, and its voltage is substantially constant, only slightly higher than the terminal voltage of the battery pack. A small amount of current supplied by the power supply line compensates for the localized loss of the battery pack so that it can be kept in a state of charge satisfaction without overcharging.

Float characteristics: The battery pack is a charging device that provides a float current to the battery pack in addition to powering the conventional load. This mode of operation is called full float charging mode, referred to as floating charge operation.

Therefore, the battery pack can be charged and discharged as the power line voltage fluctuates up and down. When the load is light and the power line voltage is high, the battery pack is charged. When the load is heavy or the power supply is unexpectedly interrupted, the battery pack is discharged to share some or all of the load. In this way, the battery pack acts as a voltage regulator and is in a standby state.

The floating charge power supply mode can be divided into two types: half float charge and full float charge. When part of the time (when the load is heavy), the floating charging power supply, and the other part of the time (when the load is light) is operated by the battery pack alone, which is called the semi-floating charging mode, or the periodic floating charging mode. If all the time is powered by the power line and the battery pack in parallel, it is called full floating charging mode, or continuous floating charging mode.

The battery pack used in the floating charging mode generally has a longer life than the full charging and discharging mode, and can be replaced by a battery pack of a smaller capacity. This floating charging power supply mode is mostly used for the power-off standby power supply of the power plant and the normal power supply of the telephone of the telephone office.
