Apple issued a statement on Thursday apologizing to customers for its controversial decision to slow down older iphones to protect battery stability, foreign media reported.
"We know that some of you feel that Apple has let you down, and we apologize," Apple said in a statement. There have been many misunderstandings about this issue, so we would like to clarify and let you know about some of the changes we are making. First, we have never -- and would never -- do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive upgrades. Our goal has always been to create products that our customers love. Making the iPhone as durable as possible is an important part of that goal."
Starting at the end of January, Apple said in a statement that it would cut the cost of replacing an iPhone's battery beyond its warranty by $50, to $29 from $79. In addition, the company will release an operating system update early next year that will give users more insight into battery life.
