The total number of smartphones shipped in China in the first half of 2022 was 136 million, down more than 20 percent from the same period last year, according to the latest statistics released by the China Information and Communication Academy. The CAICT report also showed that while smartphone shipments plummeted, the upstream and downstream of the smartphone industry chain were also affected. The demand for chips from the smartphone industry dropped by 30 percent in 2022, according to a domestic head chip supplier. With most smartphone makers already planning to hold 20% more inventory in 2021, this has resulted in a 50% reduction in actual demand this year.
