Commemorating Volta's 278th birthday as the Human Star shines
Today, February 18, 2023, marks the 278th birthday of the Italian physicist Alessandro Giuseppe Antonio Anatasio Volta. He is known for inventing the voltaic stack in 1800.

Volt is a special name named after the surname of Volt, the Italian scientist who was the first in the world to discover the principle of generating electric current by chemical methods. Volt was first adopted by the International Electrotechnical Commission as the name for the unit of voltage in 1881. In 1960, the 11th International Congress of Metrology decided to use volt as a special name for an derived unit of the International System of Units. As a unit of voltage, "International Volt" is different from "Absolute Volt". The relationship between them is: 1 International Volt = 1.00034 Absolute Volt. "International Volt" was replaced by "Absolute Volt" in 1948.
Character's life and main achievements

On February 18, 1745, Alessandro Volta was born into a noble family in Milan, Italy. Since studying at school, he has been very interested in the natural sciences. At the age of 24, he attracted the attention of academia by publishing an academic paper. At the age of 29, he became professor of physics at the Royal School of Como. A few years later, he became rector of the University of Padua.

Volta began to study electricity very early. In 1780, an Italian professor of anatomy accidentally discovered that the frog legs were connected to metal, and the frog legs would spasm whenever a thunderstorm came. A few years later, it was discovered that as long as the ring composed of two different metals was connected to the frog legs, spasms would also occur. When Volta heard the news, he was determined to uncover the secret of the "frog experiment". After many experiments, Volta made a new breakthrough and finally opened the door to electricity
Volt discovered that electricity could be generated without animals, and in 1800 he demonstrated the first battery, a volt battery, then known as a voltaic stack. It was made of zinc and silver sheets stacked on top of each other, with a cloth soaked in salt water in the middle. Soon, Volt made improvements, placing copper and zinc sheets in containers containing dilute sulfuric acid, and connecting several such containers to become "volt batteries." The invention of the volt battery changed the face of electricity, giving scientists a lasting source of current and providing people with the possibility of applying electrical energy. When Volta batteries were introduced to the United Kingdom, many scientists continued to conduct experiments and observations, which promoted the birth of electrochemistry and the establishment of the theory of electromagnetic fields. Later, Volta invented potential sequences, electroscopes, storage appliances and charging plates, etc., which brought electrical research to a new level. Due to his outstanding scientific achievements, he was elected as a member of the Royal Society and a member of the French Academy of Sciences.

Volt spent the last eight years near his Cannago Villa and Como, and he lived a completely reclusive life. In honor of Volt's great contributions to physics, people used his surname as the unit name for electromotive force, potential difference and voltage, and named it "Volt", or "Volt" for short.
practical significance

Before Volt, people could only use friction generators, use rotation to generate electricity, and then store the electricity in Leiden bottles for use, which was quite troublesome and limited in the amount of electricity obtained. Volt's invention of the battery improved these shortcomings, making it very convenient to obtain electricity.

The invention of the volt battery allowed scientists to use relatively large continuous currents to conduct various electrical research, which prompted a huge progress in electrical research. The volt battery was an important start, which led to the vigorous development of subsequent electrical-related research. Later, the success of the research and development of electric motors and generators using the principle of electromagnetic induction was also due to it. After the generator, the beginning of electrical civilization led to the second industrial revolution, which changed the structure of human society.

Character anecdote-usb cable manufacturer

Volta lived with a singer for many years, but married another woman when he was about fifty. His wife is described as an ordinary housewife, noble, wealthy and intelligent. Volta's education was mainly in Latin, linguistics and literature. He sometimes wrote sonnets in French and Italian, as well as Latin eulogies. His love of science seemed to come naturally, and at the age of nineteen he wrote a small Latin poem about the discovery of chemistry in six syllables. The area around Como, where he lived, was very prosperous, and the transportation to Switzerland was very easy. The Austrian government was liberal at the time, so the rich in the region lived a leisurely and comfortable life.

Finally, let us commemorate this great scientist and thank him for his contributions to the development of human science.
