Can the 5V2A power adapter be replaced with 5V3A?

The power adapter of the TV set-top box is broken. Check that the power output is 5V2A. Now I have a 5V3A on hand. Can I substitute it?

In other words, the device needs 5V2A power supply, the original power supply is 5V2A; now the power supply on hand has 5V3A, but the current is different, can it be used instead? Is this situation common to both DC and AC?

answer

Perfectly, 5V3A means the maximum output is 5V X 3A = 15W

And your device only needs 10W to be satisfied. (5V X 2A = 10W)

This is like the power supply of a computer mainframe. A 300W power supply can drag more than 200 W power-consuming mainframes, which is completely ok.

So, can the 5V3A power adapter be replaced with 5V2A?

The answer is no. 5V is the voltage, 3A is the power, so it must not be lower than 3A. You can use the 5V2A power adapter, but it is unstable, because the output power is too low, so it is best to buy a 5V3A adapter.

Of course, the specific consumption depends on the power consumption of the device. If it is lower than 2A, it can be used. In general, the choice of power adapter is not too small.
