As it turns out, the A16 upgrade is more conservative than expected?

That was the era of smartphone performance leaps and bounds. In the case of the iPhone, even with iterations every other year, performance growth was exponential. It's as if Apple could double the performance of the iPhone without breaking a sweat.

Somewhere along the line, those good times seemed a thing of the past. We used to tease some manufacturers "squeeze toothpaste", now a look, good guy, how everyone in the squeeze toothpaste?

Let's start with the iPhone. Jason Cross, a senior editor at Macworld, said the A16 chip in this year's iPhone 14 Pro is the "least interesting" new processor Apple has seen in years.

He made a prediction a few months ago that the A16 would incorporate 18 billion to 20 billion transistors (compared to 15 billion for the A15), a 15 percent boost in CPU performance, a 25 percent to 30 percent boost in Gpus, and further enhancements to the graphics processor and neuron engine. Compared to the 42% CPU and 35% GPU improvements that had been rumored earlier, that's pretty conservative.

As it turned out, the A16 was even more conservative than he expected: 16 billion transistors, 8%-10% CPU and 7%-19% GPU improvements, and the architecture of the CPU and neuron engines remained unchanged.

Much like the guy next door was being teased about.
