Apple patents revealed for three gamepads designed for the iPhone/iPad
Oct 17, 2022| Apple patents revealed for three gamepads designed for the iPhone/iPad
Apple may be building its own game controller for the iPhone and iPad, according to a patent released by the company, foreign media reported. The patent, reportedly made public on March 31, was filed by Apple in Europe under the code WO2022067344 and contains instructions for three different types of gamepad.
The first gamepad, designed to look and feel like the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, could turn the iPhone and iPad into a portable gaming device, with a high probability of wireless connectivity, in terms of any way you can use it.
The second gamepad is designed more like Nintendo's 3DS handheld, with the iPhone or iPad as the home screen and a secondary screen in the middle of the gamepad for portability and easy text input.
The third gamepad has a more conventional design and looks similar to traditional gamepads, but as shown in the demo, this one has the ability to adjust different input modes with the slider and works with the Apple TV.
It's important to note, however, that these designs are still under patent, and it's unclear whether Apple will actually bring all of them to market. Currently, both the iPhone and iPad natively support gamepad connectivity, and the official Apple Store can also see gamepads like SONY's DualSense and Microsoft's Xbox Elite for sale.
