Apple opens up a major MFi license for the first time!
Apr 04, 2024|
The iPhone15 series has upgraded the USB-C interface, and the interface of the mobile phone market has been basically unified since then. Now you can solve the charging problem of Apple and Android phones, tablets and most thin and light laptops with a single C-C data. However, thanks to Apple's excellent system maintenance and update, there are still many users using iPhone14 series and previous models, so the Lightning interface has not been eliminated. In order to facilitate users to better charge previous products at the same time, Apple officially opened the USB-C base to Lightning products MFi certification.

When Apple products were not yet popular with fast charging, MFi certification had a Micro-USB chassis to Lightning adapter product. Therefore, a three-in-one data cable favored by many consumers has appeared on the market. A data cable includes three interfaces, Micro-USB, USB-C and Lightning, which can act as almost all mobile phones on the market, bringing great convenience to multiple mobile phone users.

Three years ago, Apple MFi began to open the USB-C to Lightning(C94) data cable certification, but the USB-C chassis to Lightning products have not been open to approval, MFi standard clearly states that the USB-C chassis can not be directly connected with Lightning directly electrical connection. This also makes the multi-in-one data cable can not be applied in fast charge.

As the iPhone began to popularize fast charging, MFi has now officially opened the USB-C motherbase Lightning(C94) certification and authorization, and the multi-in-one data line can support fast charging. For those who have both the iPhone15 series and older iphones, only one cable is now needed.
MFi requires the use of C94 Lightning for the USB-C to Lightning adapter, which defines the functions supported: USB PD charging protocol, USB Type-C current, and USB 2.0 transmission protocol.
It is worth noting that the all-in-one data cable designed with the adapter can only be USB-C to USB-C+Lightning, and USB-A to USB-C+Lightning is not allowed.

Sum up
Due to the excellent iOS system, the existing amount of old iPhone devices using Lightning interface is still very large. For users who have multiple devices at the same time, multi-in-one data cable becomes a better choice. With Apple officially opening the USB-C motherbase to Lightning product MFi certification, the multi-in-one data cable supporting fast charge on the market will be hot again and have a good market prospect. This open certification, Apple provides a better choice for old users, and users will have a better charging experience.
