Apple may release its next-generation GaN chargers in 2022, supporting 30W and featuring a new form factor

Sep 26, 2022|

In March of this year, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote, "Apple may release its next-generation GaN charger in 2022, supporting 30W and featuring a new form factor."

Apple has previously released a new 35W GaN charger for the redesigned M2 MacBook Air, and the iPhone 14 Pro is expected to support faster charging.

Twitter user Kioriku believes that the next iPhone will support 30W charging, "charging cycles start at 30W or higher" and then "drop down to 27-25W."

Apple's first GaN charger, released in 2021, is a 140W USB-C power adapter for the new 16-inch MacBook Pro. GaN technology enables smaller, lighter and more energy-efficient chargers than silicon-based chargers.

Apple changes the functionality of its adapters almost every year. For example, the iPhone 11 Pro supports an 18W charger, the iPhone 12 Pro supports a new 20W adapter, and now there are rumors that the iPhone 14 Pro will support a GaN 30W charger. Of course, users must purchase the charger separately.
