A survey by PricewaterhouseCoopers shows that rising populism, policy uncertainty and trade conflicts have led to a sharp drop in confidence among global corporate CEOs.

PwC’s survey of 1,300 of the world’s top business leaders shows that the proportion of CEOs who will slow down in the global economy in the coming year jumped from 5% in 2018 to nearly 30%.

Only 35% of CEOs said they are "very confident" about the growth prospects for the next 12 months, far below the 42% last year.

PricewaterhouseCoopers said that there is "widespread consistency" in the issue of keeping business leaders at night. CEOs around the world believe that policy uncertainty, potential shortages of skilled workers and over-regulation are major risks.

According to the survey, in North America, 44% of CEOs are “very worried” about trade conflicts, compared with 38% in the Asia Pacific region.
